Health Issues

There is no question that the love of a Great Dane is immense. Some would say that it's because of the size of his heart. He indeed is a large dog with equally large internal organs.

Your Great Dane will worship you until the end of his life... which will be between 9 and 11 years if you keep him happy and his unknown health issues don't arise. This will undoubtedly be the best ten years of your life so don't worry too much about the technicalities.

Great Danes can acquire serious problems with their hips. They are heavy dogs (usually around 150lbs.) and this wears down in their joints. It may seem silly to some, but there are dog chiropractors that can assist you in making your Great Dane more comfortable with any bone problems he might have.

Perhaps the biggest concern is Gastric Dilatation- or Bloat, an agonizing condition that can strike suddenly and fatally. Bloat is a condition in which there is a rapid accumulation of air in the stomach causing dilatation.
